The Bury Free Press reports that a Halfords employee stole more than £2,300 from his employer by copying customer receipts and paying refunds into his own bank account.

Liam Crook of Bury St Edmunds, pleaded guilty to fraud by abuse of position at Bury Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

Prosecutor, Wayne Ablett, said Crook had put through 70 unauthorised refund transactions over a four month period at the store, between August and November 2015, totalling of £2,384.40.

He said when the company conducted an audit of refunds in November a refund was found that had been made by a manager who was not on duty that day and that Crook was the only employee in the position to put the refund through.
