Carlisle’s News & Star reports that a serial shoplifter struck seven times during a pre-Christmas spree on December 10 2015.

Magistrates heard that Sian Baker-Douglas was in the throes of a £200-a-day heroin habit when she struck at Fat Face, Marks & Spencer, Clinton Cards, Wilko and River Island in Carlisle city centre.

However, District Judge Gerald Chalk opted not to send Baker-Douglas straight to prison but imposed a 70-day jail term, suspended for 12 months and ordered her to complete a 40-day rehabilitation requirement.
