26% Surge In Shoplifting

According to the website theindustry.fashion, incidents of retail theft have increased by 26% across ten of the largest cities in the UK, with some cities seeing a rise of as much as 68%.

Cases which include racial and sexual abuse, or physical assault, have also risen from the pre-COVID high of over 450 per day in 2019/20, to over 850 per day in 2022.

A spokesperson for the British Retail Consortium said that retailers have invested more than £1bn into crime prevention, but the government and police need to do more.
