Aviva Employee Stole Customer Data

BBC News reports that an employee of Aviva, one of the UK’s biggest insurers, stole information from his employers and sold on hundreds of customer records to a claims company and two firms of solicitors.

As a result of Matthew Cooper’s illegal activity, Aviva had to write to tens of thousands of motorists who had recently had accidents warning them that an employee may have illegally taken and sold on their details.

With an accomplice – Oliver Simpson – police estimate the pair made around £20,000 selling the Aviva records.
