Bookie Employee Embezzled £40k

The website reports that a former assistant manager of Coral embezzled thousands of pounds after discovering a glitch in the company’s computer system that allowed him to bet on matches after the final whistle had blown.

Gavin Thompson employed friends as proxy gamblers, supplying the stake and processing the transactions while they placed bogus bets at Coral branches in Dundee and Forfar.

With some manipulation, Coral’s software allowed bets to be placed retrospectively, allowing Thomson to amass more than £40,000 in fraudulent winnings over a three-month period.
