Boutique Boss Swindled Herself

As reported in The Sun, the owner of a children’s clothing boutique paid herself business cash using the shop’s chip and pin machine.

Katie Lowcock processed fake ‘refunds’ to put cash onto her own personal bank card, and police were called when the card machine’s operators became worried they would not be paid for the thousands owed.

First Data Merchant Solutions – which helps small businesses process card machine payments – were left £9,200 out-of-pocket and highlighted the con, which saw Lowcock take money from her First Data business account, classing the transactions as customer refunds, which the company allows, as long as it then is reimbursed.
