According to the GetSurrey website, a former pub manager has avoided prison despite stealing more than £22,000 from his employers to fund his cocaine habit.

Martin Slocombe, former manager of The Blue Ball in Walton-on-Thames, only had his criminal activity uncovered after he failed to attend a meeting of pub managers.

An investigation by the brewery discovered that between September 5 and September 15, 2016 Slocombe had been falsifying invoices and the total amount missing was £22,850.

In court, Slocombe admitted that at the time of the offences, he had been taking cocaine “daily” as well as drinking heavily and, “was in a very dark place at the time”.
