A pensioner and career thief who has committed more than 500 crimes could be banned from stores in a town centre after going on a shoplifting spree.

He now has more than 200 convictions to his name for a total of more than 500 offences since the 1970s.

Hankinson, of Halliwell, Bolton, has claimed at previous hearings that he has kleptomania, a rare mental illness which means sufferers have a compulsion to steal.
