Plastic Bag Tax Sparks Crime Surge

According to the Daily Star, the plastic bag tax has sparked a shoplifting boom as thieves walk out of stores with piles of goods.

A source at the Crown Prosecution Service said the number of shoplifting cases had risen by 20% since England brought in the 5p charge in October.

Customers who refuse to pay for bags simply walk out with their purchases in their arms, but there has been an increase in people who have not paid for goods doing the same, because it is harder for security staff to spot thieves.
