Shoplifter Stole ‘To Help A Friend’

The News & Star website reports that a thief who fled empty-handed from Sainsbury’s store was trying to help a friend whose benefits had been stopped.

Mark Proudfoot attempted to steal laundry products and food valued at £83 by pushing a trolley full of goods past the tills and out of the store, making no attempt to pay.

A court heard that Proudfoot has a record of 35 previous thefts and committed this offence because he was helping out a friend.
