Shoplifting On Rise In N.Ireland

The BBC News website reports that shoplifting is on the rise across Northern Ireland, including a 12% increase in Belfast.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said it believed there was a link between increasing retail crime and a rise in the use of illegal drugs.

A police spokesman said that the force is putting “considerable effort into working with retailers” but admitted, “shoplifting remains lucrative because often the goods can be converted into cash quite readily.”
