Stores ‘Scared To Report Thefts’

According to the Derbyshire Live website, some stores in Swadlincote are not reporting shoplifting offences for fear of future repercussions.

Rob Coe, a local councillor, spoke out after PC Stuart Kelly had stated that shoplifting had not been much a problem in the town recently, but warned that most of the usual culprits would be out of prison by Christmas.

Coe told a local forum that, “Some shops say they don’t want to report shoplifting [...] and I know a shop whose staff saw someone steal three bags of sausage rolls but didn’t report it.”
