According to The Mirror, some retailers are slapping security tags on energy drinks as shoplifting soars.

Tescohas reportedly tagged £1.46 cans of Monster Ripper, popular with youngsters, after a spate of thefts.

Tagging devices are usually attached to high-value electronics or clothes, but recently stores are adding them to joints of meat and even razors, pregnancy testing kits and condoms.

Whilst the tagged drinks are among the cheapest items yet, one retail source said: “Tagging is going through the roof to keep pace with thefts. Some supermarkets have them on sandwiches and Pot Noodles.”
