Treasurer Pays Back £700 Of £67k

The Northern Echo reports that the treasurer of a motor club who stole almost £67,000 to fund a gambling addiction has been ordered to repay just £731.

Gambling addict Elizabeth Russell’s employer – Richmond Motor Club – was almost bankrupted by her dishonesty, which only came to light when accounts were examined and showed discrepancies over a two-year period.

Russell was asked to explain a huge financial black-hole, but refused – although she did admit stealing, confessed about her gambling habit, and said she would try to pay back the money.
