Shops On ‘Counterfeit Street’ Shut Down

The Manchester Evening News website reports that another shop on Bury New Road, north of the city centre, has been shut down after 11 different businesses were found trading and selling fake goods.
The road has become synonymous with shops selling fake products, including ‘Dior’ jewellery.

Mail Online reports that a fraudster landed a well-paid job in the Civil Service despite supplying a reference in the name a popular Assassin’s Creed video game character.

Angelica Stoichkov was paid more than £25,000 in wages after working for the General Chiropractic Council [GCC] whilst moonlighting for DEFRA.

Garage Manager Stole Tyres

The Oxford Mail website reports that a garage manager was caught on CCTV on three separate occasions stealing tyres from his employer.

Chris Rockell claimed that the tyres were old and he had put them in his car only to drive them to the back of the shop, where they were piled up ready for disposal.

Man City Worker Stole £100k

According to the iNews website, a former Manchester City employee stole more than £100,000 through refunds and hospitality packages whilst working for the football club.

Fiona Barclay worked as a business development manager and, for almost two years, she “dishonestly abused” her position, a court heard.

HMRC Worker Stole £50k

The Portsmouth News website reports that an HMRC employee diverted refunds of up to £16,000 that were due to be issued to eight ‘dormant’ accounts – including those belonging to dead people – to himself and spent them on ‘goods and treats’, before completing false records to try and cover his tracks.

Town Clerk Stole £200k

The Wales Online website reports that a clerk at a Welsh town council defrauded her employer of at least £200,000, writing more than 120 cheques to herself over a five-year period.
Margaret Buckley pleaded guilty to dishonestly abusing her position when she was expected to safeguard the council’s financial interests.
