What’s Driving Shoplifting Epidemic?

The Co-op alone recorded 330,000 incidents of shoplifting, abuse, violence and antisocial behaviour in its 2,500+ stores across the UK in 2023.
Paul Gerrard – its head of public affairs – suggests that the rise can be attributed to people stealing on a large scale to resell to people who are struggling to make ends meet.
