Thieves Steal £16.7m Per Month

According to the Standard website, the shoplifting crimewave across London has soared by 12 per cent in a year, costing the capital’s retailers £16.7 million a month.

Prolific shoplifters George Lupascu and Michael Hayes were recently jailed for raids on Boots in Moorgate after fleeing with beauty products worth a total of £5,200.

Some 99,363 shoplifting offences were logged in the 12 months to December 2025, according to the Metropolitan Police’s monthly crime database.
