The Birmingham Live website reports that an employee at a chemists in Birmingham pretended the premises had been burgled in a bid to hide the fact he had stolen £1,400.

Simon Hodgetts told police that there was a knock at the front door and that he had been confronted by a man with a gun demanding to be let in.

The Bolton News website reports that a finance manager blew more than £17,000 on lavish items using money which she stole from her education trust employer.

Jemma Stamford was caught when Bolton Impact Trust found significant accounting inequalities but she initially denied any wrongdoing.
