A story in the Essex Chronicle gives details of a single mother – and gambling addict – who embarked on a three-month shoplifting spree that netted her more than £8,000 of goods.

Joanna Daniszewska pleaded guilty to stealing high-end clothing from six different shops in Chelmsford between September 1 and December 2 last year.

She admitted stealing items worth £3,200 from Coast, £2,000 from Oasis, £671.99 from Debenhams, £134.96 from H&M, £1,996 from Phase Eight and £138 from Next.

The court heard that the unemployed mother-of-two – who is more than £13,000 in debt – then sold the stolen goods on eBay after running into financial difficulties when she split from her partner in May 2014.
