Thief Missed Court Hearing To Steal

The Lancashire Telegraph website reports that – unbelievably – a man failed to turn up for a court appearance because he was too busy shoplifting.

Usman Anwar was due to attend court for stealing alcohol from Morrison’s in August this year, but was arrested on the day of the hearing for pinching perfume from TK Maxx.

Store Puts ‘Display Packs’ On Shelves

The Metro website reports that a branch of the Co-op in Bristol has resorted to putting empty ‘display packs’ on their shelves in a bid to combat shoplifting.

The store is targeted several times a day – often by the same offenders disguising themselves to avoid detection – so now legitimate customers are forced to request full items from staff.

Post Office Manager Stole £30k

The Bristol Live website reports that a manager of a Post Office in a local convenience store stole nearly £30,000 in takings from her employer.

Anita Rudge stole £29,849.81 when working in the McColl’s branch, after struggling financially and gambling online.

The Bucks Free Press website reports that a law firm worker has been banned from ever working in the profession again after it was revealed she had falsified her CV.

Sameena Usmani responded personally to a reference request, claimed to be someone else and provided false information to back up fictitious employment history.

“The Rich Steal More Than The Poor”

On the US edition of the Guardian website, an article reports that people on incomes of $70,000 shoplift 30% more than those earning $20,000 per year.

The article cites one ongoing case of a ‘bait-and-switch’ scam involving two coffee makers, where the suspect paid $8million for an island in the Florida Keys, just one week before his arrest.

Jail For Ten-Timer Thief

According to the Somerset County Gazette website, a shoplifter caught offending ten times in the same shop has been jailed for almost three months.

Thomas Carson Howard admitted nine counts of theft from a Boots store in Taunton town centre, between May and July 2019.
