Thief Avoids Jail Due To Case Delay

The Staffordshire Live website reports that a thief who stole tens of thousands of pounds worth of copper cabling and transformers has avoided going to jail due to a ‘woeful’ delay in his prosecution.

Mark Robinson stole 20 transformers worth £17,798 belonging to Western Power Distribution plus 680kg of high voltage copper cable worth £3,060 belonging to the same firm.

A court heard how Robinson would collect the scrap metal and then transport it to a site where it was to be disposed of. Instead, he would take it to another yard where he was paid a rate through his wife’s bank account.
