Shoplifting Offences Doubled In 2023
According to the Sky News website, shoplifting has hit a record high with 16.7 million incidents recorded in 2023 – more than double compared with 2022.
Theft cost retailers about £1.8bn – also a record – and this is the first time it has passed the £1bn mark, according to an annual survey by the British Retail Consortium (BRC).
