The Daily Record website reports that an “overzealous” security guard at a Lidl store broke a thief’s leg after tackling him for shoplifting.

Leandro Da Silva spotted the thief – David O’Connor – trying to steal from the shop in Edinburgh and knelt on his body to restrain him, before piling a second thief on top of him.

According to the Hull Live website, an employee stole £100,000 from her employer over a five-year period, to fund a lavish ‘Instagram’ lifestyle.

Laura Howarth officially earned just over £900 a month as a finance assistant but stole every week, taking her fraudulent ‘salary’ up to an eye-watering £6,000 a month.

Leslie Pattinson stole expensive equipment over a two-week period and uploaded details to the online auction site, before a colleague spotted them for sale.

Scotland’s Shoplifting On The Rise

An opinion piece on the Daily Record website reports that recorded instances of shoplifting in Scotland have risen 18 per cent in the 12 months ending in June 2022.

Just under 25,000 incidents were recorded by police – an average of 68 per day – but the real number is likely to be far higher, with many store managers simply letting thieves go with a telling-off.

Jonathan Kirby repeatedly targeted the Havaianas store for two months, then took leave, claiming he had contracted the coronavirus.
