BRC Urge Police To Act Against Retail Crime
As reported on the Bedford Independent website, the latest Retail Crime Survey by the British Retail Consortium (BRC) has revealed that the total cost from crime and crime prevention has surged to £2.2 billion, an increase of 16% from the previous year.
The survey also flags up the dramatic impact of violence and abuse against retail workers, which has risen to 424 each day.

According to the Retail Gazette website, recent research has shown that the retail sector is plagued with 1,000 shoplifting incidents per day, and more than half of them reportedly go unpunished.
Police data shows that UK retailers recorded 359,156 incidents of shoplifting in 2019, and 17 of 45 police forces around the UK saw increases in the number of incidents, with Sussex being the worst hit.
