Aldi Removed Steaks From Shelves

As reported on The Mirror website, branches of budget supermarket Aldi have been removing steaks from their shelves, in a bid to stem the increasing number of meat thefts.

Signs have been seen telling customers that steaks were only “available by request”, and staff had to go to a storeroom to collect the desired packs.

As reported on the Vice.com website, security guards at large security firms in the UK are turning a blind eye to people who steal food, during the cost of living crisis.

One guard is quoted as saying, “Put it this way, I won’t be paying attention to anyone stealing things to eat or drink. Everyone’s got to live.”

High Tech Thieves Stole Spirits Worth £50k

According to the Exmouth Journal a high-tech shoplifting gang stole almost £50,000 worth of expensive bottles of spirits from supermarkets in Devon and Cornwall over a five-month period.

Romanians Marian Stoica and Robert Matei – both jailed for two years – targeted stores in towns across the two counties, using special tools to remove security tags.

Tags On 85p Snack Bars

The Gloucestershire Live website reports that Aldi has added security tags to packets of sweets worth as little as 85p in at least one of its UK stores.

Yellow stickers, which activate security systems if stolen, have been pictured on Kinder snack bars priced at 85p and Maltesers, Minstrels and Revels costing £1.35.

Condom Thief’s £4k Rampage

The Birmingham Live website reports that a thief went on a shoplifting rampage, stealing more than £4,000-worth of goods in two months, including a £500 haul of condoms.

Ashley Roden committed a dozen incidents, striking six times at Co-op, five times at Boots and once at JD Sports.

According to the Birmingham Live website, shoppers should be wary of goods being offered at discounted prices, as they may have been sourced by criminals who are increasingly stealing to order.

Once an order is received, thieves are given a ‘shopping list’ of the exact items that they should steal from a certain shop or supermarket such as M&S, Lidl and Asda.
