Gran Stole £180k Over Ten Years

The Wales Online website reports that a grandmother who worked for a building society for two decades stole more than £180,000 from her employer.

Claire Free fraudulently used nearly 150 cheques and transactions, and was caught after a customer complained that over £9,000 had been taken from his dead father’s account.

Workforce Shrinks After Fraud

The Lancashire Post website reports that the workforce of a family-run TV firm has been left a third smaller after a couple defrauded the company of tens of thousands of pounds.
Karen Corless and Colin Vernon received a suspended jail term and 150 hours of unpaid work respectively, after stealing cash and TVs.

Manager’s ‘Industrial Scale’ Scam

The Liverpool Echo website reports that an office manager at a tech company in Warrington stole £228,000-worth of postage stamps and printer cartridges, in what was described as an ‘industrial scale’ scam.

Karen Belton used her employer’s business accounts to over-order huge quantities of both items, before selling them on eBay.

Fake Clothes Gang’s £1m Tax Fraud

Four family members, who were convicted of selling counterfeit clothes, have been sentenced for a £1 million tax fraud after an HMRC investigation.

After their conviction, Yasir, Qaisar and Amar Choudry and Mudasar Alishan were also discovered to have failed to declare any earnings.

The Wisbech Standard reports that a personal secretary sold ink cartridges purchased on her company credit card for a profit, using her personal eBay account.

Jessica Prince was suspected of fraud after her company’s accountant received an invoice from an unregistered supplier.

Fake Course Scam Netted Pair £200k

The BBC News website reports that a couple from Norfolk have admitted running fake distance-learning courses which netted them sums of more than £200,000.

Katie Hope and Scott Wolfe duped 900 people into paying for qualifications which did not exist, via their firms International Distance College and the British Nutrition Council.
