Greggs Moves Self-Serve Food & Drink

The BBC News website reports that Greggs will move its self-serve food and drinks to behind the counter to stamp out shoplifting at the High Street bakery.

It is not expected that the change will be implemented across all Greggs’ 2,600 bakeries in the UK, but it may be rolled out to sites where there are high levels of theft.

Met Police Target Prolific Thieves

As reported on the Met Police website, its officers have secured significant banning orders against two prolific shoplifters.

As part of their continued crackdown on retail crime, they arrested Winston Wright, who stole more than £2,500 worth of goods from stores over four months.

Fraudster Stole £600k

According to the Portsmouth News website, an accountant who stole more than £600k from her medical firm employers contributed to more than 125 of her colleagues losing their jobs.

A court heard how Jolene Groves may have defrauded as much as £1.6 million from the firm during a crime spree lasting six years.

Payroll Manager Stole £21k

According to the South Wales Argus website, a payroll manager stole more than £21,000 from his employer to fund his cocaine and gambling addictions.

Connor Hickman stole the money to pay for a £1,000 a week drug habit and to feed his gambling problem which saw him lose around £500 every seven days.

Thief Took Long-Haul Holidays

The BBC News website reports that a finance manager shopped at Harrods and Selfridges and went on long-haul holidays after stealing £189,000 from her employer.

Anita Mirmohammadi also spent money at Mercedes-Benz and had dental work done at a Harley Street clinic in London.

Rise In Pensioner Shoplifting

According to the Guardian website, food retailers in the UK have seen a “massive” increase in pensioner shoplifters over the last year, amidst the rising cost of living.

John Nussbaum, from store security firm Kingdom Services Group, has said his staff were seeing a “different sort of shoplifter now.”
