Harrogate Businesses Urged To Increase Security

The Harrogate Advertiser reports that police have urged local shop owners to increase their security after more than 100 additional offences were reported in the town centre alone this year.

From February to August 31 this year, the average number of reported incidents of shoplifting across the district was higher than the North Yorkshire average.

Asda Worker Stole Goods Worth £42k To Sell On eBay

In Blackpool, The Gazette reports that a supermarket worker stole goods worth an estimated £42,000 from his employer to sell on eBay in a “massive abuse of position”.

Daniel Cannon, 28, had access to the Asda warehouse in Fleetwood, from where he would steal mobile phones and tablets over a series of months.

As reported in the Hertfordshire Mercury, a woman from Hertford used company funds to buy £50,000-worth of mobile phones.

Sarah Millet ordered more than 200 smartphones when she was working as an IT assistant at Holman Henwick Willan LLP, an international law firm.

Company Boss Lied On CV

According to the Scunthorpe Telegraph, a company boss lied on his CV and falsely claimed £11,000.

Craig Taylor made false claims for VAT refunds to HM Revenue and Customs and also submitted a fraudulent CV to a company who took him on as a quantity surveyor.

Security Guard ‘Driven Off In Boot’

The Gloucester Citizen reports that a serial shoplifter reversed into a Sainsbury’s security guard and drove off with him.

Andrew Prior, a security officer at the store, tried to stop Penny Morgan leaving with £312-worth of unpaid groceries but she reversed into him, forcing him to jump into the boot.

Footballer Accused Of £500k Theft

According to BBC News, a former Gaelic footballer has been accused of stealing over £500,000 from his employer.

Johnny McGurk, now an accountant, was charged with stealing £572,206 from quarry owner Patrick Bradley Ltd, based in Kilrea, County Londonderry.
